CBD and Hemp terms can be confusing. This beginner’s guide to CBD & Hemp terms is an excellent base to your CBD knowledge.
Hemp
Also known as Cannabis. These plants can have different species and variations of cannabinoids. The two common types are Indica and Sativa. Generally, Hemp Sativa is low THC and higher other cannabinoids. This may also be called industrial hemp.
CBD
Acronym for Cannabidiol. One of the Cannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant that is non-psychoactive.
Cannabinoids
Molecules found in the Cannabis plant that interact with cannabis receptors in the endocannabinoid system. Phytocannabinoid is another term for cannabinoid that simply specifies that it is from a plant. Phyto means “from plant.” There are some drugs that have synthetic cannabinoids.
Endocannabinoid System
The endocannabinoid system or ECS is a biological system with cannabinoid receptors existing within the central nervous system and peripheral system. Typically your CB1 receptors are found in your spinal cord and brain. CB2 receptors are found throughout the body including your skin. These cannabinoids receptors receive and utilize cannabinoids within the body for a variety of purposes.
Terpenes
These are organic compounds found in hemp plants that are non-psychoactive. Terpenes can enhance hemp effects with taste, smell, and some health benefits. Many other plants like herbs. florals and conifers possess various types of terpenes. Cannabis plants product their their own specific terpenes (aka scent).
Full-Spectrum
This term is used to describe when a CBD product contains all of the cannabinoid compounds.
THC Free
THC Free CBD products, CBD isolate, and Broad Spectrum CBD products do not contain the THC cannabinoids.
Carrier Oil

CBD Topical
CBD topicals are used on your skin and work with your endocannabinoid system through your skin. Typically, CBD topicals work in the area you apply them.

CBD Beauty products are similar to CBD topicals. These products are used on the outside parts of the body. CBD and hemp could improve health and beauty concerns like rashes, acne, dry skin, and more.
